How can acupuncture help you?

Traditional acupuncture is based on the theories of traditional Chinese medicine. The saying above demonstrates the Chinese understanding that not everyone with the same disease will benefit from one treatment. Instead, treatment is tailored to the individual and every aspect of their health.

Research evidence

A growing body of evidence-based clinical research shows that traditional acupuncture safely treats a wide range of common health problems.

In Chinese medicine, the physical, emotional and mental are seen as interdependent. This is particularly obvious when considering the stress-related conditions which are so prevalent in modern life. The system of meridians, or channels of energy, also create connections between distant areas of the body, which is why, for example, nausea may be treated using points on the wrists.

Chinese medicine places the focus of diagnosis and treatment on the individual, not their illness, and all the symptoms are seen in relation to each other. As each person is unique, two people with the same western diagnosis may well receive different acupuncture treatments.

Acupuncture treatment seeks to identify and address the root cause of imbalance, rather than treating individual specific symptoms. Often several, apparently unrelated symptoms have the same root cause, so treatment for one problem may also help to resolve other problems.
